History of Our Bracelets-English Translation

Our group of young adults, teens, kids and women in the program of prevention- “Groupo de Artesania”, which, in English means, “group of handicrafts”. This group is with the "Casa de la Juventud" in Chimbote; a few short blocks from the Perpetual Help church.

We invite all of our brothers and sisters from all over the world that help this project reach our goal of finding better possibilities for our workers. I recognize that with their work of making bracelets, they can earn money with dignity and work for a better quality of life. Thank you brothers and sisters from different places, with different languages and different beliefs. I recognize that without your help we would not be able to do all this. My best wishes and gratitude, that God always be with you. Your friend, Benjamin Aguilar.

Here are some of the people who work in our group:

Julio Chavez Alvarado is a 25 year old man with mental disabilities. He acts like a seven year old kid. He is a hard worker, creative, sweet, and a very good son to his mother. He has been with us for seven years. He has developed many abilities as a person and with handicrafts. Thankfully, his mental disability has not been an impediment for his work. He is part of the group of teachers and best producers of the bracelets. What he has learned in these years, he is sharing with other kids with love and kindness. Everyone can succeed, everyone just needs a chance.

Marcos Valdivia is a five year old boy who has a lot of talent in the production of bracelets. He lives with his mom, his grandparents, aunts and uncles. His dad abandoned him right after he was born. So his mom has had to work a lot to get him food and clothing. But she does not make enough to meet his needs. It makes us very happy that he is part of our program and we try to provide the company and support that we will be able to give him.

Fela Leon is a 45 year old woman who has been dedicated to the production of the bracelets for the past three years. She makes bracelets during her free time, like a therapy to reduce stress, which she has within her family. Her husband Luis is now in this group too. Working together, they have more time together and their relationship is getting better. When there is an opportunity to sell the bracelets they do and that way, with the money they earn, they have more money to use for the necessities of their five children; the help that our handicrafts group provides is very important.

Luis , Fela Leon’s husband, happily produces bracelets. It is not hard for him to help his wife in the bracelet production. He is also part of the Group of Handicrafts.

Malena  is a 38 year old woman with four kids, and is now pregnant. She works different types to jobs to meet her necessities. For example, washing clothes, selling food in the street and other small jobs. Now she has started working with our group and she wishes to learn how to produce the bracelets. We are sure that she will learn, we greatly trust in her. Since she is a single mother, she only lives with her kids, our group will do everything we can to make sure Malena will have a good condition of life.

Juan is a seven year old boy. Thanks to him being able to produce and sell these bracelets, he is able to buy school supplies. Being in this group keeps him occupied so he will not be on the street corners with bad influential people, which prevents problems, like consuming drugs. That is why our group also helps kids and adolecents become educated in all aspects of life. Juan likes to study a lot, and because of the lac of money he was not able to accomplish his schoolwork. He was not able to buy notebooks. Today, things have gotten better for Juan due to the selling of these bracelets allows him to buy what is neccesary for school. His parents are very happy about this.
